Artist Statement

I attempt to capture the feeling of movement in my subject(s) using color and line to loosely describe the scene. I am inspired by human interaction involving competition, comradery and spirituality.

My method of working is to quickly apply pigment, laying down the composition with wide flat brushes. I refine the gestured scene with ink, graphite and pastel in order for the viewer to gather content from the abstraction. I rarely use local color, choosing the palette as I move through the scene balancing one hue against the other.

My current interest in sports relates to an energy and drive to represent the fast competitive life in which we live. Despite life’s challenges, a victorious outcome is central to my depiction of life; focused effort being the prescription for success.
